The libertarian Kingdom of Israel
God intervened in the course of civilization at the time of Moses in order to give a libertarian government to Israelites. This government was supposed to inspire reforms in other nations of the earth. Individual Israelite citizens were in complete control of their government. For example, an individual could refuse to pay taxes when the government did things he did not like. God served as the Commander in Chief of a volunteer army so there were no taxes to support a military-industrial complex.
Common citizens were so rich that everyone in society took a sabbatical every seventh year. They got the entire year off with savings. Plus, all their debts were automatically forgiven. No debts continued into the seventh year. What’s more, their primary residence was returned to them every 50th year. Nobody could permanently sell his or her primary residence. You can see that citizens were kings in God’s economic system.
Wealthy citizens did not like this libertarian government and rallied naive citizens to petition God for a king. God warned citizens of all the abuses they would suffer if they chose a federal government over a libertarian government. The list of abuses could very well describe abuses by Presidents and Congressmen this very day. For example, Congressmen vote themselves shamefully large pay raises and medical benefits while suppressing minimum wage and medical coverage for taxpayers.
You might be thinking about how stupid Israelites were to choose a kingly government over a libertarian government. Think about it. Haven’t you been told that a libertarian government would never work in the USA? So, it appears that people in our time are just as stupid as people were 3000 years ago.
Adam Smith and the naive concept of a free market economy
At about the time of the Industrial Revolution in the 1700’s, an economic philosopher named Adam Smith came up with the concept of a free economy. Smith basically claimed that businessmen would create wealth for everyone in the world if they were free from government regulation. This never happened because businessmen actually do not believe in free economies. On the contrary, corporate leaders thwart free economic forces at every opportunity. They thwart free economic forces by cheating. For example, they form monopolies in order to prevent competition. After they eliminate competition, they raise prices until common people cannot afford products and services. Additionally, they pay off Presidents, Congressmen and Judges in order to have them create laws in their favor and to award high-paying contracts outside the bidding process.
In the 200-year history of the US, only two presidents tried to impose free market forces on businessmen. And businessmen did not like a free economy at all. When corporate leaders were prevented from cheating free market forces, citizens were able to retain their share of America’s wealth. Teddy Roosevelt (Republican) and Franklin Roosevelt (Democrat) fought corporate leaders and corrupt Congressmen in order to allow citizens to have an economic Square Deal and New Deal. As a result of their efforts, citizens enjoyed some wealth for a few decades.
American’s founding fathers & their slave labor
Civilization has not been able to take giant steps that would make the world better over night. It is true that the American Revolution created a government that was a giant step forward. But, it has not ended economic enslavement and a ruling aristocratic class. There remains a shameful economic disparity between the wealth receiving class and the wealth producing class.
Employers enslave people and negate their constitutional rights. Poverty is enslaving. Corporations take the constitutional rights of citizens from them, as well as their fair share of wealth. After a person joins a corporation, his or her Bill of Rights is suspended. This is a fact of corporate life. When a person crosses the threshold of a corporation, he goes back in time to the era of feudal kingdoms and peasantry.
The essential reason that the US Constitution and Bill of Rights did not greatly improve the economic condition of common citizens was that men who owned businesses and slaves were the ones that created it. They avoided any change that threatened their personal wealth. And their wealth came from cheating workers out of their pay. Free people in the North were paid the lowest possible wages. Slaves in the South were not paid at all.
We can see that improved constitutions in the future would end the economic disadvantage of working people around the world. After all, money is one of the most important aspects of human life. The world cannot become a better place until wealth is retained by those who create it, mainly the working class. Wealth comes out of the gound as crops, oil and metal. Factory workers make usable products from these crops and raw materials.
From this point on, nobody in society produces wealth, yet the people who do not produce wealth are the wealthiest. For example, government employees, who do not produce wealth, have more wealth than factory workers have. People who receive tax money are wealthier than people who pay tax money. Working people cannot continue to be cheated out of their rightful share of the wealth that ONLY they produce. Nobody can get exited about God’s government on earth if the same old economic system continues to make his or her life miserable.
If there is to be a utopia, there can no longer be a tiny group of predatory families that steal the wealth of the working middle class. New nations must create better constitutions that take wealth into consideration. The constitutions of nations that already exist ought to be amended to include economic Square Deals and New Deals for individuals and a means for wealth producers to retain their fair share of the wealth that they produce- the wealth that everybody else in society lives off of. I mean that the money and wealth of employees and small business owners should not migrate toward ruling families to the point that a few families have accumulated most of the wealth of the nation. Instead, employees and small businessmen should retain and accumulate their fair share of the wealth that they created.
Reagan and deregulation
Presidents Reagan and Bush undid Square Deal and New Deal policies. As a result, predatory corporate leaders were unleashed to pillage citizens. The most infamous example of unregulated corporations was Enron. Energy prices were artificially elevated to the point many citizens could not heat and cool their homes. An untold number of people died of heat and cold inside their own homes.
There was some good news about deregulation. Telephone service is now a fraction of the cost that it was during the days of monopolies. But, the breakup of telephone monopolies has nothing to do with deregulation. On the contrary, it is an example of how corporations must be prevented from forming monopolies.
The last and future Great Depression
America is now in a descent into another Great Depression. Experts are saying that this new depression will be far worse than the first one because our economy is so much more artificial than it was before. Our modern economy is a debtor economy run on credit. And money is not based on gold. It is not based on anything at all.
After the last depression, government leaders enacted safeguards to prevent a future depression. Essentially, corporate leaders were forced to be honest and to abide by free market forces. Those safeguards have been either removed or disregarded by Reaganomics. Corporate leaders were freed to cheat free market forces by political payoffs and other corrupt means. The reason for our latest economic woes has been corporate greed. It has always been corporate greed. Presidents, Congressmen and Judges have been paid off in various ways to help wealthy families to prosper at the expense of taxpayers.
For example, the Iraqi war has been a means to enrich a tiny handful of wealthy families that own stock in war industries. President Bush cheated the bidding process in order to pay the highest possible prices for military products. The war has been prolonged in order to assure the flow of money from middle class families to wealthy families. The ultimate goal has always been to give control of oil in Iraq to ruling families. And, permanent military bases have been constructed in Iraq to house soldiers that will protect oil wells, pumping stations and refineries. American soldiers have died in order to enrich a tiny group of families that places no value on human life.
The next millennium is our chance to get our fair share
God intends to bring about utopia in the next millennium. That can only happen when the economic system changes dramatically.
Alternatives to the capitalistic economies of Western nations have included communism. But, communism was a horrible failure. Regardless, social democracies in Europe are very wealthy and the quality of life for citizens is far better than the quality of life for Americans.
Europeans are surpassing Americans by every standard of measurement because of their use of limited socialism. For example, European children are far brighter in test scores. European mothers have far better benefits and they are able to devote a great deal of time to the nurturing of the next generation. As a result, Europeans are healthier physically and emotionally. European children are taller than American children. American men are actually shrinking. European children are taller than American children as a result of free school meals that meet nutritional standards.
After the upcoming collapse of this world’s predator economy, we will have a chance to create a new economic system. We ought to take the best of the capitalist system in the US and combine it with the best of social democracies in northern Europe. I believe the result will be a capitalist system in which every citizen participates as a matter of birthright. The stock market would no longer be the domain of the investment class. And dividend payments would be limited to a specific time period or return so that a ruling aristocratic class would not be perpetuated. Stocks would not be owned in perpetuity. Every man, woman and child would own a fair share of stocks. It would be as easy to buy stocks as it is to buy lottery tickets. In this way, the nation’s wealth would be greatly shared. And this would actually bring relief to corporations because they would no longer pay dividends in perpetuity. They would no longer need to sell stocks in perpetuity. So, they could reinvest their profits into modernization and higher wages.
Employees rather than a group of ruling families would own the stocks of their corporations. Employees would participate in corporate governance and this would prevent abuses that are now typical in the corporate workplace.
It remains for people that survive Armageddon to create a better economic system. They will probably do so by trial and error. I am not an economic expert and my opinions are in a broad sense. But, do not trust experts. Economic experts actually have no credibility anyway. They have been part of the problem and not the solution. If a new generation does not make a new economic system a part of their new constitution, their children will soon after be enslaved to ruling families that will send them off as soldiers to die in wars for oil. Your grandchildren would become economically impoverished by the same system that has impoverished you. So, the post Armageddon generation cannot pass up their opportunity to create a new economic system. And it appears that they will not because the Bible describes a much better world during the upcoming Millennial Sabbath.
